I have quite a few collectible wall plates featuring ... surprise!... wolves. If there's anything that bugs me it's those cheesy plate hangers made of wire. No matter if the wire is plastic- or rubber-coated, it still chips or marks the edges of my precious plates. And I hate the way the parts of the holders show around the edges of the plate, which in my mind detracts from the beauty of the plate.
There are shelves you can buy for your plates, and they're nice. But one made from Manzanita is much nicer than nice.
I've experimented with many designs until I got it just right. One of the crowning achievements was figuring out how to make those nifty slotted holes on the back so you can safely hang the shelf on the wall without fear of it coming off the nail or screw. I now can guarantee that as long as you use the right size nail or screw your Wall Plate Display shelf will not come down unless the nail comes out of the wall. I strongly suggest you use a "molly" and a screw to keep this from happening.
Another innovation you'll find here are plate shelves that feature a candle holder as well. The votive candle cup holds the standard 1 1/2-inch candle and is inserted into a hole, held in place by a rubber fitting. When lit the light shines on the plate without over-powering it or being in front of the plate. Even if you don't light the candle it adds an elegance to the shelf. I include a candle when applicable.
I have begun to work on multiple plate displays and hope to add one to my gallery soon.
As always, I invite you to send me your request for a custom plate display shelf. I will send you pictures of raw Manzanita to choose from.
Please enjoy browsing my gallery. Come back often, as it's sure to grow quickly. As I have said many times, I'm just getting started.

There's always a special place in your heart for your "first" and so I feel a special fondness for this plate display shelf. This was my very first one. And while a few that followed went into the scrap bin this one made it to the website. I especially like the two-toned wood colors, created when the branch it is made from was broken as I cut it from the plant. The red core is highlighted by the gold outer wood making this piece a delight to look at. When a plate sits on it, it's even better. The natural curve in the wood seems to cradle the plate while the branch that continues adds its own accent to the display.

| This wall plate display shelf was an inspiration. I tired of the
scratches and nicks those cheap wire plate hangers made on my precious
collectibles. When I started to make this one I saw a part of the wood
jutting out and just before I cut it off I envisioned the candle
holder. With a glass votive candle holder set in a hole made to fit,
the idea is for the candle light to shine on the plate and wood,
bringing out the highlights and colors. But even without the light the
wood in this piece almost glows by itself. Deep red with striking gold
grains all along its unique shape make it a real conversation piece.

| There's not a lot to say about this marvelous wall plate display shelf.
It is shaped perfectly for the task. What makes it so special is its
color. I have many beautifully colored Manzanita creations in my
galleries but this one is special among them. The entire piece is
beautifully grained along its natural shape. While I always try to make
pieces with end cuts that show off the cross-cut grain of the wood, the
ends of this shelf are just as special as the rest of the piece. The
shelf is hand-rubbed to a velvety smooth finish, making it practically
glow.

I'm fascinated by the grain in this display shelf. The color is so rich the contrast against the rest of the wood stands out almost in relief. The candle sits atop the nub of a branch at a level that gives perfect illumination to the plate, if you chose to light it. If not, it's presence adds a wonderful touch to the display. Although the plate may appear to sit atop the branch it actually rests in a deep groove so it's securely in place.

I'm going to have to find other ways to describe these works of art. I love this one, the deep red wood, the close grain following the shape of the wood, and the incredible shape. With the "Mercury Wingfoot" shape it will seem to fly across your wall. Because the wood is hard even for Manzanita, it has an amazingly smooth finish.
