Tell me what you think!

I call my wood work "Wood Art" and I mean it for good reason. Each piece is more than something to use, it's something to look at and appreciate. That is art.

But I have found that Manzanita is indeed an artful wood in its own right. Sometimes I pick up a piece of Manzanita and can't help admiring the artistry nature put into it. All by itself it's a work of art and I haven't got the heart to try to improve on that by trying to turn it into something else. Here in this gallery you will find examples of those.

Whether it's for your wall , mantle, table, desk or shelf, the pieces you will find here are meant to be enjoyed as art. In my humble opinion, no artist can improve upon the work of God or Nature. By whatever name you call it, the power and peace of a natural piece of wood endures any efforts we can put into trying to make it into something else. I hope you will enjoy browsing my Wood Art gallery and will find some sculpture or whimsical piece that you will have a place for in your home. The entire reason I have these items here is the hope that someone will be able to enjoy it. I have no greater joy than knowing my work has made another person happy.

I've made several wall sculptures but this is the first one I have offered for sale. Frankly, that's because I have a hard time parting with them. I call this sculpture "Commitment." If you look closely you will see one remaining leaf holding fast to the branch, as if unwilling to give up its commitment to it's first love against the tide of time. When I happened on this wood in a pile of brush in a cleared lot, the idea came to me naturally. It is finished with polyurethane spray. A stunning addition to your wall, and a real conversation piece.

Please note: The cost of shipping for this item is high because of the size of the package required and its extreme fragility. I have cut the cost in half, or in other words splitting the cost of shipping with the buyer. I really want someone to enjoy this magnificent piece of art.

This is one of the few pieces where I offer a different wood other than Manzanita. This Arrowhead has been sculpted from Myrtle Wood. Oregon Myrtle Wood is another remarkable wood for art.

The Arrowhead is the centerpiece of this work. I have left the Manzanita stand unfinished, having only oiled it. This is to highlight the Arrowhead rather than compete with it. I call it "Strength" because the Arrowhead stands strong, a symbol of holding fast against all enemies and able to hunt down any prey.

This Manzanita wood feather has been shaped into a life-size tail feather. This one was patterned after a crow tail feather. It is ultra thin, nearly the thickness of a true feather. The run and color of the grain further adds to the realism of the piece. The stand is remarkable in its own right, and the two together would proudly grace any table, shelf or mantle. As you can see the feather detaches from the stand for closer inspection. But be careful, it is extremely delicate. The feather is about 9 inches long, the stand 10 inches. With the feather mounted it stands about 4 inches high.

This Manzanita wood feather has been shaped into a life-size wing feather of a magpie. It is even more finely shaped than the one above, so closely mimicking a real feather that if it weren't for the obviously wood grain, its weight, shape and aerodynamic form might cause you to mistake it for the real thing. It honestly seems ready to fly right off the stand. The stand isn't as unique as others intentionally, to feature the feather rather share the glory of this fine work of art. The feather detaches from the stand for closer inspection. But be careful, it is extremely delicate. The feather is about 8 inches long, as is the stand. With the feather mounted it stands about 3 inches high.

You might deduce I am after realism with these feathers. This one is nearly perfect. It is patterned after an Osprey wingtip feather, although slightly smaller, and might make the Osprey jealous. It is finely crafted, delicate realistically shaped and long, with grain that only heightens the image of its avian counterpart. The stand is an amazing example of the eccentricity of Manzanita wood. Both are a rich deep red, cut from the same piece of wood. Centered on your coffee table, it will certainly attract attention. It is about 10 inches long, the stand 9 inches. With the feather mounted it stands about 4 1/2 inches high.
