A walking cane is a very personal thing. Your cane is part of you. It reflects your personality and says
something about you. Not only does it help you get around, the right
cane helps you get around with style and class. That's why you want a hand-crafted Watchwolf Creations Manzanita walking cane.
Each cane is ultimately balanced with the top directly over the bottom, and with interesting curves and twists to give it the distinct shape
that make my canes unique and original. Some are straighter, some very eccentric, all are interesting. I personally test the wood for strength before using it and again after it's put together. If it shows any significant bending the wood is rejected. Assuming it is not abused, all my canes are guaranteed against breakage under normal use as a walking cane.
A one-piece Manzanita cane is uncommon. Most
of these are made of two pieces, in many cases from the same
stock: the head or handle, and the shaft. After the
pieces are completed the head is carefully attached to the shaft using
a peg-and-hole fitting and a high-strength adhesive. I carefully shape
and smooth the fitting to be nearly seamless before the finish is applied.
The length noted in the description of each is the current
size
of the finished item, measured from the palm-rest to the ground. All canes can be shortened to fit on request but of course
can't be made longer.
Custom canes are always available on request. There is no extra charge for special orders. Selecting from a large selection of raw stock, I will work closely with you to make your cane just right.
Some pieces of Manzanita are more common than others in terms of color, grain and shape. Each cane is priced according to the rarity of the wood and the amount of work that has gone into making it.
Have fun browsing the cane gallery. Just click on the picture to be taken to a
larger view of each cane. Be sure to
check them all out, as each one is completely different from all the
rest. Be patient...
you'll find it's very hard to choose!

The "Snake Cane," so-called because if you look you will see a snake head on the handle. This cane has many twists in the stock uniformly spaced to make it balanced and very appealing. It also sports a knot cluster on the end of the handle and another just under it. It shows off more than the usual magnificent Manzanita highlights in the wood grain with multi-colors down the length of the shaft. A sturdy, masculine cane.

I was amazed when I saw the bird head developing in the handle as I worked on it. It's a crane on one side and the impression of one on the other. The handle tapers to a smallish grip beyond the ball-shaped joint at the shaft, making it well-suited for small hands. The top of the shaft is rather thick with a fine example of one of Manzanita's more interesting traits, a weaving lace-like texture. The rest of the shaft is a slow twisting bend.

| This is a special cane. It was my first, originally finished with polyurethane. I have since refinished it with oil and wax. The handle is deeply crooked with a unique up-turn at the rear. This combined with the marvelously twisted shaft gives it the classic look of an Irish Shillelagh. The wood is two-toned, light on one side and deeply grained dark on the other. This distinctive cane must be seen to be fully appreciated.
